Welcome to Ayurveda with Melanie
AYURVEDA (eye-your-vay-dah), means science or knowledge of life. It originated in India 5,000+ years ago. It's a system of healing that utilizes nutrition, herbal medicine, daily practices, seasonal living, yoga, meditation, and body therapies to bring one into their ultimate healthy state of being.
This ancient Indian Medicine influenced many practices in modern medicine. Three great ayurvedic texts influenced modern medicine: Charaka Samhita (contains poetic prose of internal medicine), Sushruta Samhita (ayurvedic surgery), and Ashtanga Hridayam (physiology of the body and treatments). From surgery procedures to marma therapy, there is an ayurveda history. Marma are pressure points and marma therapy is an ayurvedic bodywork threrapy. It is similar to acupressure and later spread to other parts of Asia. From there, it became what we know as acupuncture today.
Ayurveda has been called Yoga’s sister science. Yoga is a practice within ayurveda, but food as medicine and how well one digests food is at the forefront. Ayurveda is a holistic system that addresses the whole person. In this way a person’s state of body and mind are assessed and from there we journey on the road to your optimal wellness.

Some come to ayurveda having heard about it's long term help.
While addressing the whole body, the digestive system is a wise place to focus with ayurveda. If we aren't digesting our food, we aren't metabolizing the nutrients we need in order to build the healthy tissues of the body. When we are digesting well, the whole process works in a way where we can feel our best, and if we feel our best we can live our life to the fullest, offering the world our best self.

Ayurveda is not:
-
a quick fix
-
a fad diet
-
a fancy new trend on your social media feed
-
short lived
-
a plan to just think about
Once one finds daily or seasonal wellness, they also experience spontaneous healing. It’s amazing to witness. While ayurveda offers a program that pans over 6-12 to create full healing, immediate relief can be experienced as well. If you have been unwell for a long time, it will take time to find health again.
But commitment is key, and if you want to feel your best, ayurveda can provide that to you.

A note on Ayurveda and the elemental theory: All existence is made up of five elements and these elements have qualities that occur differently in each individual. The human body has three main body types called doshas (see dosha section for more info): Vata (made up of the qualities of air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (water and earth). These doshas determine the personality, tendencies, and habits of an individual. Learn more with me today: Make an appointment by emailing me at info@ayurvedawithmelanie.com
